Man, 22, charged with murder in fatal shooting of Ann Arbor man

ANN ARBOR, MI -- The 22-year-old man accused of murdering a 24-year-old man in Ann Arbor this week has been charged with open murder.

Sekou Conde, 22, was arraigned on Tuesday, June 6, in the 14A-1 District Court before Magistrate Elisha Fink on charges of open murder, first-degree home invasion, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent and two counts of felony firearm. Conde is accused of fatally shooting Donrell Canda, 24, near his Ann Arbor home on Sunday.

Canda was walking up to his home in the 2500 block of Sandalwood Circle in Ann Arbor around 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, when he was confronted and shot by Conde, according to police. Conde then followed the victim into his home and fired more shots, according to police. A 23-year-old woman and the victim's 3-year-old son were inside the residence at the time.

"When officers arrived on scene, they encountered the woman who had been inside the residence," police wrote in a press release. "She told officers she managed to escape the home, but her boyfriend and son were in the home, with possibly the suspect still inside."

The pair knew each other, although the motive is currently unclear, according to police.

Upon entering the home, police found Canda dead with multiple gunshot wounds. The child was found unharmed in an upstairs bedroom. Conde was not in the home and was arrested in a nearby parking lot a short time later.

Conde is currently being held in the Washtenaw County Jail without bond.

His probable cause conference is currently scheduled for Thursday, June 15.
